SVP Society

The Society of St Vincent de Paul. Many parishes in the Diocese have a group of SVP Brothers (or Sisters). The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a lay association dedicated to the personal care and service of the poor. The society was founded in 1833 by Frederick Ozanam and others in Paris among the teeming poor of that city.

The society's spirituality and charitable works are based on the life and example of St. Vincent de Paul, who dedicated his life to the poor in the 16th century. There is still much poverty and need in our society today. Our own 'conference' at St. Cuthbert's is generously supported by the parishioners. Anyone in need can always seek the help of the Brothers.

Anyone interested in joining the Brothers or wanting more information about the activities of The Society of St Vincent de Paul, can contact our president Mr. Bill Devine by telephone on (01429) 268803.
